WFC Promotes Bully Prevention

World's Finest® Chocolate is joining the effort to stop bullying.

World's Finest® Chocolate (WFC) is pleased to announce it has entered into a new partnership that will help support schools with one of the largest non-academic issues they face today, bullying. Starting this Fall, WFC fundraising customers who order a minimum of $3,000 will be eligible to receive the Block out Bullying, bully prevention curriculum free of charge. Block Out Bullying is a nationally recognized program designed to help stop bullying in schools through education and awareness.

The topic of student bullying has become a critically important issue to school administrators, teachers and parents. Kids who are bullied can experience many negative physical and mental health issues, including, depression and anxiety, increased feelings of sadness and loneliness, changes in sleep and eating patterns and decreased academic achievement and participation. According to the 2011 Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System, 20% of students in grades 9-12 experienced some type of bullying.

The Block Out Bullying program consists of seven lessons that explain the differences between conflict and bullying, what bullying is, what a target of a bully can do, and how the school can prevent and eliminate bullying issues. Each lesson spans multiple subject areas, including historical examples, social studies, communication, math and writing skills enforcement. The lesson plans also include simple homework assignments to promote parent involvement. These activities help parents recognize their role in promoting an environment that is free of fear, violence, and bully intimidation inside and outside of school. "A safe school starts with promoting positive behavior to our children." said Block Out Bullying CEO Tom Wiegand. "We combined an engaging curriculum with unique and fun awareness projects, and are excited to be able to provide a funding solution through World's Finest Chocolate."

"Our representative's work with thousands of schools nationwide," said Jason Cort, Senior Vice President, for Fundraising at WFC. "Through this partnership, every school we work with will have the opportunity to add bullying prevention to their regular curriculum without any additional costs."
