The Gym Elkins Park Raising Funds for the Sara's Smiles Foundation

The Gym Elkins Park, a leading fitness center in Montgomery County, PA is hosting a Charity Workout Day to benefit the Sara's Smiles Foundation, a locally based, nationwide charity created to assist children given the diagnosis of pediatric cancer.

The Gym Elkins Park will be hosting a Charity Workout Day to raise funds for the Sara’s Smiles Foundation on Saturday, November, 22nd from 10am to 4pm at The Gym Elkins Park, 46 Church Road, Elkins Park, PA 19027. This locally-based, nationwide charity was created to assist children who were diagnosed with cancer.

Each year cancer kills more children than any other disease. Over 12,500 young people are diagnosed with cancer every year with that trend on the upwards swing.

"A piece of Sara's spirit is in every Inspiration Kit that we deliver. Our mission to create a warmer, more supported, more empowered experience for pediatric cancer patients was borne of Sara's positive attitude and boundless energy. It gives us great peace of mind to know that Sara's spirit continues to ripple outward, touching so many along the way and moving people to action in helping others."

Jennifer Burke, Sara's Mom

Sara Burke was a vibrant, energetic, fun-loving five year-old. She loved arts and crafts, mac ‘n cheese, music, her big wheel, and her big brother, Lucas and big sister, Becca.  At age 5, Sara was diagnosed with brain cancer. She underwent countless surgeries, chemotherapy, stem cell transplants, and a host of other procedures. For ten months, Sara fought bravely for her life but lost her heroic fight in 2008.

Sara leaves behind a legacy of hope and love that has affected thousands. She battled her disease with fierce determination and an unwavering positive attitude. The Sara’s Smiles Foundation was established through her family to carry on Sara’s memory, spirit, and legacy of hope, determination, and cheer.

The Foundation seeks to help develop happy memories for children who are struggling with cancer by designing fun activities, providing supplies and projects, decorating rooms, and fashioning other unique experiences tailored to each child’s unique personality, interests and needs.

During the Sara’s Smiles Charity Workout Day, there will be trainer and instructor led workouts and classes for all ages in a variety of disciplines, face painting for the kids, a Cheltenham Fire Truck, raffles, door prizes and refreshments.

A donation of $10 is suggested for participation in the day’s festivities. All proceeds will benefit the Sara’s Smiles Foundation. For those who would like to contribute, but are unable to take part in the training sessions, they can stop by anytime between 10am and 4pm and enjoy the other activities.
