The Largest Competition of American Wines in the World Assists in Deciphering the Latest Wine Trends

The San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition Invites the General Public to Check out the Newest Trends in Award Winning Wines along with Delicious Gourmet Foods

San Mateo (I-Newswire) February 3, 2014 - Now everyone can be an expert on wines after they attend the annual San Francisco Chronicle Public Tasting at Fort Mason Center. There will be over 800 wineries there and delicious food that you can pair with the wines. Attendees will have a chance to taste hundreds of wines and talk with the winemakers about their new award winning wines.

In addition to wine, food and a wonderful day
with your friends, the competition will have several KGO radio personalities at the event. There will be several judges like Wilfred Wong from BevMo! and Jon Bonne the wine critic from the San Francisco Chronicle. They are there to answer questions and help enhance the pairing of wine and food experience. Attendees will be able to purchase most of the wines at local retailers; however, some of the wineries have confidential purchasing opportunities that require the purchase directly from the winery.

This year, the 2014 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition's Public Tasting is on Saturday, February 15th from 1:30-5 p.m. at Fort Mason Center in San Francisco. It will open 30 minutes early, allowing people more time to enjoy these exclusive award winning wines and pair them with delicious gourmet foods from Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts and Savor California.

The first competition of the year, this unique competition is designed to bring together the most distinguished judges in the country to compare wines in multiple price ranges and varieties to determine the best of the best in each category that appeal to all walks of life from a college student to a sommelier. The largest completion of American wines in the world has created an exciting venue in which to learn and discover new and interesting wines for every palate. An elite group of individuals from media, trade, educators, restaurant and hospitality industries (including wine buyers and winemakers), from New York to California and everywhere in between come together for an intensive week-long judging session. When the judging is over, wine drinkers know what they like and vintners know their efforts have not gone unrewarded.

For over 22 years the SFCWC, formerly the Cloverdale Citrus Fair Wine Competition, has grown and redefined itself in response to the needs of wineries and consumers. Last year the judges scrutinized over 5,500 wines from budget to exclusive categories. This year, the San Francisco competition promises to be even better than ever and will educate the public on the new and creative wine blends in today's market.

San Francisco is home to some of the most exceptional food and wine in the country. The SFCWC urges Americans to join us in saluting our beautiful city by raising a glass of cheer in recognition of the Bay Area's beauty and essence of elegance at the annual Public Tasting held at Fort Mason Center in San Francisco on Saturday, February 15th from 1:30-5 p.m. The stunning views of the Bay will linger in the hearts and souls of attendees. This annual event is the perfect time to unite with family and friends in a joyous day of companionship.

The winning wines and wineries will be featured in the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition Wine Awards Special Section, and online at SFGate.com in February. In addition, the wineries will be featured in the Santa Rosa Press Democrat and in other papers across the country as well as in promotions through Facebook, Twitter, blogs and other social networking outlets.

The San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition is an annual fundraiser that supports wine studies, enology, and viticulture programs for higher education institutions in California. Left over wines from the competition is donated annually to Santa Rosa Junior College, Fresno State University, Sonoma State University, and California Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo.

Each year, the Bay Area's News & Information Station, KGO 810 features judges and winning wineries as a sponsor of the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition to over half a million listeners reaching from Oregon to Southern California. Stay tuned throughout January and February to Cooking with Ryan Scott, Saturdays from 4-6pm, to learn more about the winning wines, as well as tips and trends from the judges.
