Online, March 27, 2013 (Newswire.com) - The city of La Torre de Esteban Hambran invites one of the most emblematic and traditional Easter celebrations of Castilla-La Mancha in Spain on the week of March 24 - 31. Several traditional guilds, known as "cofradÃas", full of religious devotion, stroll through the streets of the city with religious carvings of memorable historical value. The display of religious imagery on the streets of the city, known as "pasos", during Holy Week will be performed by more than 120 "cofrades" (members of a cofradia) and a band of bugles and drums. Event attendees will be able to enjoy also the many benefits and attractions that the city offers to its visitors.
La Torre de Esteban Hambran, Toledo, Spain. The city of La Torre de Esteban Hambran announces the celebration of its Holy Week from March 24 to 31, 2013. The display of religious imagery, known as "pasos", will tour the city representing one of the clearest examples of religious sentiment, tradition, and devotion that can be seen today in the region of Castilla-La Mancha. What started with 24 cofrades in 1954 is now made up of more than 120 faithful followers who walk the streets of the city with carvings of important historical value.
Among the city's guilds, known as "cofradias", it is included that of Jesus of Nazareth which was founded in 1954 by a group of young city members and it has a figured carved by sculptor Salcillo. This carving is currently stroll through the city in a structure built by Alejandro Garcia and Eustaquio GarcÃa, both founding members of the cofradia. Since 1959 they are accompanied by the statue of the Virgin of Hope. This procession will be seen on the Holy Thursday starting at 12:00 am and it is known as the "Procession of Silence". On Holy Friday the cofradias of the Holy Sepulchre and the Virgen de la Soledad will walk the city, both formed in 1959, and they are accompanied by more than a hundred cofrades. Earlier during the week in Holy Wednesday it can be seen strolling the streets one of the youngest cofradias founded in the 80s by the then parish priest Don Jose Durá. This penitential cofradia carries on their shoulders the statues of the Dolorosa and Jesus tied to a column and it is formed by about 100 young cofrades. Easter Sunday is also a memorable day in which visitors will be able to see the Risen Jesus' encounter with his mother, and the burning of Judas by local youths who turn 18. All of these events and processions will be accompanied by a bugle and drum band composed of twenty members.
The city of La Torre de Esteban Hambran is located at only 57 km from Madrid which makes it a point of reference for visitors that want to have the opportunity to see and feel one of the most emotional and devotional celebrations in the Castilla-La Mancha territory.
