The 2013 Honda Civic Earns Safety Recognition

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has issued their top ranking, Top Safety Pick+, to the latest Civic.

The team at Jeffrey Honda of Roseville is proud to announce that the upgrades Honda made to the Civic for the 2013 model year have earned it the highest recognition possible from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

The 2013 Civic was the first small car to receive the Top Safety Pick+ designation, a safety level which made its appearance for 2013 model year vehicles.

In order to earn such high accolades from the IIHS, vehicles must be run through a test that simulates a 40 mph impact with a stationary object, sometimes referred to as the frontal-offset crash test.

This is the prime test that separates Top Safety Pick from Top Safety Pick+, though the Civic also had to earn "good" ratings - the highest available - in four out of five other safety tests, including moderate front overlap impact, rollover, side impact, and an evaluation of how effective head and seat restraints are at protecting passengers.

Additionally, the Civic has to earn no less than an "acceptable" in the small front overlap crash test.

Honda's upgrades for the 2013 model year, including significant front structural upgrades, are likely the reason for the vehicle's success. Not only did Honda revamp the Civic for safety, but they did it for comfort as well.

As part of Honda's line-wide initiative to redefine what drivers think of when it comes to "standard" features, new Civic models include a wide variety of features that many other automakers would charge drivers for, including:

• Honda's i-MID infotainment system
• Bluetooth connectivity
• Rearview camera
• SMS text message capabilities
• and more

Not only is Honda working hard to keep drivers entertained and comfortable behind the wheel, but in doing so, features like Bluetooth connectivity, text messaging capabilities, and the rearview camera system help the driver pay more attention to the road and reduce distraction.
