Subaru Tribeca To Cease Production

Online, December 11, 2013 (Newswire.com) - The Japanese car manufacturer has confirmed that they will be ceasing production of the Subaru Tribeca in early 2014. The seven seater SUV has had sales problems in the last few years with reduced interest in the Subaru Tribeca occurring in the United States, the biggest marketplace. This is against the trend of other Subaru vehicles which had strong sales performance throughout 2013 in all areas including North America.

The Subaru Tribeca is set to exit dealership showrooms in February 2014 but there is speculation about the type of vehicle which is set to replace the Tribeca. Although Australia dealerships are still awaiting confirmation from the Subaru parent company in Japan, Fuji Heavy Industries, it is assumed that the ceasing of production will be worldwide.

The Subaru Tribeca may have underperformed in sales for other areas of the world but in the Australian market, it has actually provided a solid sales performance. The Subaru Tribeca has sold over eight thousand units in Australia since its release in 2006. It experienced a peak in sales for 2008 of 1651, but popularity has been waning. The 2013 figures show that the Subaru Tribeca's popularity is down by almost a half when compared to last years figures.

The original styling of the Subaru Tribeca was not well received. The model was heavily criticised for its aesthetic appearance especially the aviation inspired touches to the nose. The Japanese car manufacturer responded and redesigned key elements of the body style the following year. The 3.0 litre engine was also replaced with a 3.6 litre engine which offered better performance than the previously underwhelming smaller engine. Subaru have yet to announce a replacement for the Tribeca.
