South DeKalb Business Association's Economic Development Bus Tour

South DeKalb Business Association's (SDBA) Economic Development Bus Tour to feature political officials, business leaders, South DeKalb businesses, real estate professionals and an economic development roundtable

Key political officials, real estate professionals, community leaders and business leaders will participate in the 2013 SDBA Economic Development Bus Tour (The Bus Tour). The political officials and leaders from Georgia Power, DeKalb County Government and the Development Authority of DeKalb will provide insight about the economic outlook of South DeKalb in a round table discussion. The site visit locations include Park Central Industrial Park in Decatur, the Panthersville area in Decatur and the Stonecrest Mall area in Lithonia.

The Bus Tour will take place on Thursday, April 11th 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. It will begin at the Porter Sanford III Performing Arts and Community Center (Porter Sanford), 3181 Rainbow Drive, Decatur, Georgia. The bus will depart at 9:00 a.m.

The event will culminate with an Economic Development Roundtable. The roundtable will include Commissioner Larry Johnson, Commissioner Stan Watson, Representative from Commissioner Lee May's office, Charles Whatley, Director of Economic Development and Development Authority of DeKalb County, and Pedro Cherry, Vice President Community and Economic Development, Georgia Power and other special guests.

Prior to the Economic Development Roundtable, the bus tour will begin at Design Essentials with a coffee break. Cornell McBride, Jr. of McBride Research Laboratories, Inc. will provide insight into Design Essentials' successful direct distribution of premium hair care products and how the Park Central location has given them a competitive advantage. Then the bus will stop at Lift Atlanta. Participants will have an opportunity to explore the Lift Atlanta facility and learn how Lift Atlanta has successfully built a multimillion dollar forklift and other material handling equipment business in the South DeKalb area.

After leaving the Park Central Industrial Park, the bus will go to the Panthersville area. Attendees will learn from one of the top real estate leaders in the southeast. Pattillo Real Estate Industrial, which owns and leases 20 million square feet of industrial space will lead a discussion on a development opportunity in the Panthersville area.

Stonecrest Mall is the next stop. Jackmont Hospitality, a food service company with over 15 T.G.I. Friday locations in Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Pennsylvania and Washington D.C. will spotlight one of their newer T.G.I. Friday locations in Stonecrest Mall. Participants will learn why Stonecrest Mall was an ideal location for their portfolio. The last site visit will be led by Wheeler/Brand Management Company. The Wheeler/Brand Management Company has over four decades of commercial real estate experience and it will highlight the appeal of the Stonecrest Mall area.

Participants will then have an opportunity to interact with more political officials and business and government leaders during the Economic Development roundtable luncheon.
