"We spend our days in the water or daydreaming about it. Preserving and protecting our waterways is of utmost importance. No one wants to be paddling for a wave and catch a plastic bag around their feet," said Steve Watts, founder of Slyde Handboards.

In an effort to increase environmental awareness, Slyde Handboards has teamed up with Heal the Bay to auction off a one of a kind Slyde handboard created by local artist Alicia Haberman.

Fifty percent of the proceeds from the auction will be donated to Heal the Bay in support of the
"Ban the Bag"a campaign focused on banning single-use plastic bag use in California.

"Ban the Bag" Campaign

At present, it's estimated that Californians alone use 12 billion plastic bags each year.

If passed California would be the first in the nation to pass a statewide plastic bag ban.

"Art is eye catching and thought provoking. I'm hoping my unique Slyde Handboard will capture the attention of mass consumers and help them reconsider using a plastic bag out of convenience," said artist Alicia Haberman.

The 10 day eBay auction for this "unique masterpiece" is set to conclude on Sunday, August 12, 2012, at 5pm (PST).
