Save-An-Angel Animal Rescue Collects Over Ton of Beads to Benefit Dog Rescue
The Save-An-Angel foundation's Mardi Gras bead recycling program has collected and sold over a ton of beads to benefit needy animals in Louisiana and seeks to hit new records with collections from Mardi Gras 2014.
Online, March 13, 2014 (Newswire.com) - The Save-An-Angel foundation, a non-profit animal rescue organization, has implemented a Mardi Gras bead collection program to collect used Mardi Gras beads from individuals and recycle them for sale to benefit needy animals. To date they have collected and sold over a ton of Mardi Gras beads to local Krewes and double their efforts this year.
Bead donation sites have been set up across the city in Uptown, the French Quarter, Metairie, Kenner, the West Bank and Houma, where individuals can drop off beads and throws. Beads will then be cleaned, sorted and stored for re-sale to local Krewes throughout the year. Recycling beads in this way reduces waste that would otherwise end up in landfills and reduces the amount of money spent to import new beads from overseas, instead keeping the industry local to New Orleans and utilizing funds to benefit needy animals. Proceeds from donations help provide food, medicine and veterinary support to the animals in their care as well as providing resources to rescue additional dogs in the area. Additional funds will be used for a new spay/neuter and microchip program as well as to help support the Save-An-Angel cancer fund for canine lymphoma research. The Save-An-Angel foundation was originally created to benefit dogs diagnosed with cancer, by providing education, support and access to state-of-the-art treatments. The founders, Kristie and Johnny Sullens, along with the volunteer "Save-An-Angel Saints" have since evolved the organization to provide rescue and rehabilitation to dogs in need, placing animals in foster homes and supporting the efforts of other local animal rescue organizations.
