New Honorary Commanders Named at Davis Monthan Air Force Base

On Thursday, February 19th, Davis Monthan Air Force Base (DMAFB) held its Honorary Commander Alumni Induction and Change of Command ceremony.

Dan Yribar, Regional Manager at Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation was one of several prominent Tucson business leaders who joined the DMAFB Desert Lighting Team as an Honorary Commander.

In a statement issued by Colonel James P. Meger, the goal of the honorary Commander program is to provide business leaders with insight into the Air Force.   Meger continues stating "The honorary commander program is designed to further the understanding of individuals in our community about the Air Force, our mission, and our installation."

"I'm immensely proud and humbled to be given an opportunity to be involved with the base and learn how I can better serve those who serve with excellence."

Dan Yribar, Regional Manager

Dan Yribar was recommended to the Honorary Commander program by his good friend, Major Patrick Smiley.  Smiley, aware of both Yribar's and Fairway's commitment to the US Armed Forces was proud of the recommendation and personally presented the 355th Operation Group Flag during the Change of Command ceremony.

Yribar will serve in his new role through December, 2016 and will attend and participate in several unit and base events.  These activities will range from monthly "Hail and Farewells," where squadrons welcome new Airmen to Tucson and say goodbye to those departing the community, to unit picnics, holiday parties, awards ceremonies, the annual Fourth of July celebration and the biennial D-M open house.  Yribar will be invited to attend other formal events as well, such as Airman Leadership School graduations, Changes of Command, and the biennial Air Force Ball.

According to Yribar, his primary interest is to learn as much as he can about the men and women that are a part of DMAFB and their responsibilities.  "My friend, Patrick (Major Smiley) is a real American hero, as are all the members of the 355th Squadron and the thousands of military personnel stationed right here in our own backyard," said Yribar.  "I'm immensely proud and humbled to be given an opportunity to be involved with the base and learn how I can better serve those who serve with excellence."

Growing up in a military family is where Yribar attributes his great respect for the US Armed Forces.  His father, Pete Yribar, served in the Armed Forces his entire life.  A Korean War Veteran, he retired from the US Air Force and then joined the National Guard.

On top of financing the dream of homeownership for almost 20yrs, Fairway Independent Mortgage is notorious for supporting the US Armed Forces via its American Warrior Initiative program.  Hosting "Boot Camp" events across the country, Fairway has trained thousands of mortgage and real estate professionals on how to better serve active and retired military.

During these events, Fairway has sponsored more than 25 Mortgage-Free Home Giveaways to wounded Veterans and has changed the lives of several more Purple Heart Veterans - all from Fairway employee donations.

"We're thrilled here in Tucson to be hosting the next Fairway Boot Camp on April 15th at the Pima Air and Space Museum," said Yribar, "where we have some fun surprises up our sleeve for a special Tucson Purple Heart family."

Realtors that would like to attend the upcoming Boot Camp event on April 15, where they will receive 3hours of Continuing Education Credits and be certified as a Certified Military Residential Specialist, should contact Yribar at 520-749-3900 or dyribar@fairwaymc.com.
