Moja Fair Trade Fashion Partners with Big Brothers Big Sisters

Moja Designs is offering an exclusive fair trade jewelry item that not only empowers artisans in developing countries but also gives back to local kids in need in the US. 50% of profits from each of these fair-trade necklaces sold will benefit BBBS.

Moja Design announces partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee! After seeking a way to connect Moja artisans and projects in Africa with their local community in the US they set out to partner with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of East Tn. Moja Fair Trade desired to design a line of jewelry products that would represent BBBS with 50% of the sale price going to their organization and 50% going to Moja's partner schools and communities..

In late Spring, Moja began meeting with Lis Couser, BBBS's Chief Development Officer, to work on product designs. Couser had a great idea of doing something that was a take on the heart in their logo. So, when Moja headed to Kenya in June, they took the idea to the Njoroge family, their expert metal jewelry makers. Benson and his family are expert metal artisans and are able to create all kinds of designs from recycled scrap metal.

After tweaking the initial designs a bit, Moja and Benson came up with a beautiful heart etched by nail into a brass pendant with an aluminum heart cutout on top. The name for the piece is Two Hearts, One Hope. The two pieces of this fair-trade pendant represent the children of BBBS and the children served by Moja partners in Africa that are united by their hope for a bright future.

Moja is offering 3 different fair-trade necklace pieces: a large pendant with a long, silver chain, a medium size pendant with a thinner silver chain and a charm size pendant with a silver chain bracelet.

Each piece also comes with a handmade card telling the story of the jewelry making it a perfect gift that gives 3 times!
