MakerPlace To Host Two-Year Anniversary Open House

The do-it-yourself workshop will celebrate its two-year anniversary with an afternoon event on March 8th

San Diego, CA (I-Newswire) February 12, 2014 - MakerPlace, the complete metal, wood, and electronics shop, classroom and work area, will host its two year anniversary open house on Saturday, March 8. San Diegans are invited to shop, create, watch live demonstrations and grab lunch at the MakerPlace workshop from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The free all-day event, celebrating the workshop's two years of operation, will include instructor demonstrations, meet and greets with members, tours of the facilities, special membership pricing and lunch. All attendees are invited to view a special hydro bot challenge where participating students from various San Diego County high schools will compete in a timed hydro bots construction and presentation. The winning team will receive 1 Robbie the Robot kit from 3R's Robotics.

Since its grand opening in March of 2012, MakerPlace has become home to more than 350 members who utilize the space for everything from hobbies to business.

"Two years ago, we opened MakerPlace with the mindset that we could not only help people build their dreams but also enable and amplify the Maker Movement in San Diego," said Steve Herrick, co-owner of MakerPlace. "We're thrilled to be celebrating another successful year for the shop not long after sponsoring San Diego's first ever Mini-Maker Faire this past December."

In addition to special membership rates, attendees will be invited to purchase raffle tickets with the chance to win various prize packages including a month membership with two choice classes.

Food and drink will be available in the back patio of MakerPlace with MIHO Gastro Truck and Thorn Street Brewery.

MakerPlace offers its space and tools to members only via corporate, family, daily, monthly or annual memberships. In addition, the workshop offers basic to advanced courses, beginning from $30, to start off or hone in on a skill.
