DR. TACHMES FIRST IN SOUTH FLORIDA TO OFFER GROUNDBREAKING CRYOPRESERVATION OF STEM CELL TISSUE TO CLIENTS IN ANTI-AGING THERAPY

Miami (I-Newswire) November 2, 2011 - MIAMI BEACH, FL — Dr. Leonard Tachmes is proud to announce that his Miami Beach Plastic Surgery Center and MedSpa will be the first institution of its kind in South Florida to offer its clients cryopreservation of stem cell tissue, partnering with the innovative Genesis Biosystems to actualize this leading-edge technology, which many health professionals believe will be the wave of the future in cosmetic surgery.
“We will be harvesting fat during liposuction procedures and then sending the fat to a stem cell tissue bank that will cryopreserve it and separate out adult stem cells for future use,” Dr. Tachmes says. “The process can also be accomplished with a simple, local anesthetic 30 minute procedure without the complete liposuction surgery, just to obtain the stem cells for cryopreservation. Patients will be able to use the stem cells in the future for either cosmetic procedures of the face and body, or to treat various medical conditions and disease processes as new treatments become available.” We can also cryopreserve fatty tissue from the liposuction procedure for future cosmetic surgery rejuvenation procedures, as well. This process opens the door for various plastic surgery techniques including fat transfers to the face, breasts, and buttocks.”
Genesis Biosystems has partnered with Cryo-Save, one of the world’s leading stem cell banks, to offer the Cryo-Lip™ service, an opportunity for patients to store their own adipose tissue from liposuction at one of their world-class cryogenic laboratories. Dr. Tachmes will collect a small amount of a client’s fatty tissue then send it to Genesis Biosystems’ highly specialized U.S.-based laboratory located in Indianapolis, IN, which will process and cryopreserve a rich mixture of adipose cells, mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and other progenitor cells. The tissue can be cryopreserved indefinitely, or until a client requests that it be returned for clinical reinjection.
Extracting and preserving stem cells is a practice that has been employed for years by doctors interested in the field of regenerative medicine. However, extracting and storing stem cell tissue for cosmetic procedures is a new approach and considered to play a significant role in the next steps to progressive medicine. Plastic surgeons often use lipofilling—the transfer of an individual’s fatty tissue from one part of the body to another—to sculpt the face, breasts and buttocks. Adult stem sells obtained from fat will now be available to inject into these areas to augment the results of the fat transfer procedures. Doctors also are already using stem cell tissue in regenerative medicine procedures, such as the treatment of urinary incontinence in older women, certain orthopedic joint conditions, and in men after prostatectomy surgery.
Pricing for cryopreservation of stem cells alone is $4000. For cryopreservation of stem cells and fat: $6000. Annual storage fee of cryopreserved tissue after the first year is $200/year.
