Island Trader Vacations Donates $25,000 To The Midshipmen's Morale Fund

Island Trader Vacations donates $25,000 to support officers in training at the United States Merchant Marine Academy.

Once again offering support to worthy causes, Island Trader Vacations has donated $25,000 to the Midshipmen's Morale Fund at the United States Merchant Marine Academy. One of only five United States Service Academies, the Merchant Marine Academy educates licensed Merchant Marine Officers. These Merchant Marines serve America's Marine transportation and defense needs during both war and peace time and are highly sought after.

Founded in 1943, the United States Merchant Marine Academy or the USMMA is located in Kings Point New York. The Midshipmen, or the students of the Merchant Marine Academy, are trained in navigation, marine engineering, maritime law, international law, personnel management and customs as well as other subjects which are directly or indirectly related to running a large ship. All graduates of the Academy have a service obligation upon graduation which includes working 5 years in the United States maritime industry with 8 years of service in any reserve unit of the U.S. Armed Forces or serving 5 years of active duty in any of the U.S. Armed Forces. Referred to in wartime or times of emergency as a "fourth arm of defense", these qualified men and women serve to protect the U.S. and its interests and are an essential part of its security at sea.

Island Trader Vacations is dedicated not only to its members and member satisfaction but to members of the community. Each year, Island Trader Vacations offers its support to a number of worthy charities and organizations including the Shriners Hospital for Children, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the USO and the Salvation Army.

Island Trader Vacations is a member's only travel service which offers access to discounted travel and value member benefits.
