Inscape Studio Announces The Launch Of Inscape Publico
Inscape Studio, a D.C.-based architecture firm, has created a separate 501(c)(3) design studio to serve nonprofit clients.
Online, April 19, 2012 (Newswire.com) - WASHINGTON, D.C. - Inscape Studio, an architectural design firm that works in the commercial and the residential sectors, has launched Washington, D.C.'s first nonprofit architecture firm, Inscape Publico. A registered 501(c)(3) organization, Inscape Publico was created as a separate entity to partner solely with nonprofit clients and is a result of the for-profit firm's experience with pro bono design projects and architect Greg Kearley's tenures on various nonprofit boards of directors. Kearley, who started Inscape Studio in 1998, serves as Inscape Publico's Executive Director.
"In late 2008, stock markets crashed worldwide, creating an uncertain climate for many nonprofits," said Kearley. "It was then that I began the conversations that would lead to Inscape Publico. Up until that point, Inscape Studio had worked selectively with nonprofits. My idea was to create a nonprofit architecture firm that would be able to spend 100 percent of its time dedicated to creating inspiring spaces for other nonprofits and the people they serve."
Inscape Publico provides concept design services at significantly reduced rates - generally, 25% to 33% of typical commercial design fees - to nonprofit clients seeking to build a new facility, expand an existing structure, or undertake a complete renovation. For each architectural need, the firm studies the client's character and mission, analyzes the site conditions, and develops a design program and deliverables - including plans, building sections, and 3D images - that allow nonprofits to share their vision with stakeholders, obtain accurate construction costs, and set realistic fundraising goals.
Current Inscape Publico projects and clients include a new headquarters for the D.C.-based Latino Economic Development Corporation; a community health center in Haiti for George Washington University's Project Medishare; and a mobile performance venue/stage for DC Collaborative, for which Inscape Publico will launch a Kickstarter-based funds drive in mid-May. Previous clients include D.C.'s Sitar Arts Center and the international humanitarian organization Relief International.
