Indore Institute of Science & Technology (IIST) recently held its 11th Annual Day amidst much fanfare and in the presence of eminent personalities from industry and academia. Dazzle 2014 was held on 29th March and celebrated the academic excellence and achievements of its students throughout the year.
The event had Dr. Piyush Trivedi, the Vice Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya, as its Chief Guest while Mr. Rajendra Prasad, President and CFO, SRF Ltd and Dr. Prabhu Agarwal, Chief Learning Officer, Jindal Steel and Power Ltd were the Guests of Honour. Other eminent attendees included, Shri Rohit Jainendra Jain, Chairman, Shail Group, Dr. Pramath Raj Sinha, Chairman, Governing Body and Asheesh Gupta, Vice Chairman, Governing Body and Anuradha Das Mathur, Member, Governing Body and Dr Peeush Bishnoi, Director, SGI.
The venue was buzzing with anticipation as the proceedings began with the traditional lighting of the lamp and invocating the blessings of Goddess Saraswati.
Dr. Piyush Trivedi addressed the gathering on some of the new initiatives the university has introduced, like funds for entrepreneurship for students, scholarships for meritorious students for training abroad, certificate courses in cloud computing, video lectures from faculty at IITs, amongst others.
Dr. M. S. Murthy then presented the Annual Report, highlighting the milestones the institute has achieved during the year, such as patent filings by student and faculty and initiatives the institute had carried out for the overall development of its students.
Dr Pramath Raj Sinha, Chairman, Governing Body, in his speech talked about the importance of mentors in young students' lives as he said, "One should have a mentor in life, who can tell you about your strengths and weaknesses without any bias. A mentor could be your professor, boss, colleague or a friend, but that role is immense." He also had helpful advice for students as he asked them to, "Not be afraid of failures but to learn from them. You shouldn't hide your drawbacks but be aware of them. Only then can you conquer them on your way to success."
With the audience suitably "dazzled" by the guest speeches, it was time for the awards ceremony that the students were eagerly waiting for. Many students from IIST had brilliant academic achievements and ten of the meritorious students were presented with awards by the Chief Guest and Guests of Honour. 25 student achievers received their awards from Dr. Pramath Raj Sinha and Dr. Bishnoi.
The gathering was then treated to a dazzling cultural programme, Shab-e-Malwa. The program gave an opportunity to students to display traditional and modern dance performances which were breathtaking. A fashion show was also held to add to the glamour quotient of the event as students made a huge impression on the catwalk.
The Annual Day concluded with dinner for students, parents, alumni and guests, who went back sated after an event that turned out to be a celebration of achievements of IIST and its students.
