Habitat for Humanity Southern Santa Barbara Joins with Goleta Valley Beautiful To Complete "A Brush with Kindness" Home Repair in Goleta

Project part of Habitat for Humanity's housing repair program A Brush with Kindness which provides exterior painting, fence repair, landscaping, and driveway repair for low-income homeowners in need.

Habitat for Humanity of Southern Santa Barbara County completed another A Brush with Kindness home repair for a low-income homeowner, this time in conjunction with Goleta Valley Beautiful. Over the course of three workdays, Habitat for Humanity and Goleta Valley Beautiful volunteers provided exterior repairs and landscaping for a home in Goleta. The project was part of Habitat for Humanity's housing repair program A Brush with Kindness which provides exterior painting, fence repair, landscaping, and driveway repair for low-income homeowners in need. Goleta Valley Beautiful provides tree planting and landscaping to low income housing with a grant from Yardi, Inc.

"Habitat for Humanity of Southern Santa Barbara County was grateful for the chance to repair a home in Goleta. With both the Habitat ReStore and office in Goleta we welcomed the opportunity to repair a home and revitalize a neighborhood in our own back yard," said Jon Peterson, Director of Operations of Habitat for Humanity of Southern Santa Barbara County. "We were thrilled to have the support and partnerships with Goleta Valley Beautiful on this project."

"We've been looking to expand our services to the low income community "said Ken Knight, Goleta Valley Beautiful Executive Director. "With the support of our sponsor Yardi, Inc. and the established success of Habitat for Humanity's A Brush with Kindness program, we are looking for more projects like this in which to collaborate."

Habitat for Humanity's A Brush with Kindness program was created to help low-income families in Southern Santa Barbara who struggle to make necessary repairs on their homes. Habitat for Humanity partners with the homeowners so that they can continue to live in a safe and decent environment that meets their families' need. A Brush with Kindness provides building materials, expertise from skilled professionals, and free volunteer labor. Able-bodied homeowners work side-by-side with Habitat's volunteers as part of their "sweat equity" which is central to Habitat's homebuilding program.

A Brush with Kindness complements Habitat for Humanity's construction programs that bring decent and affordable homes to low-income families. All partner families must meet Habitat's income requirements, as well as show a need for crucial exterior repairs and a willingness to partner with Habitat for Humanity.
