Facebook Fans of Slyde Handboards Vote For Hawaiian Native, Rheanna Morgan, To Be November's Surf Artist Of The Month

Slyde Handboards looks to create a surf art movement, which compliments environmental awareness both locally and globally.

Slyde Handboards is an emerging surf brand based out of Venice Beach, California.

The handboard or handplane has been called the "modern day acceleration accessory" for bodysurfers.

"There's a massive buzz about handboarding/handplaning lately. Even guys that have long-boarded all their life are getting a thrill from the ease and simplicity of handboarding." said Steven Watts founder of Slyde Handboards

As the buzz continues to amplify for Slyde Handboards, the brand intends to keep their message of being "innovative and design driven alive."

To keep the creative momentum in motion, Slyde Handboards announced a contest in search of the the best surf artists in the United States. The tagline of the campaign exclaiming; "Great Talent Deserves to Shine."

The talent contest was held on Slyde Handboards Facebook page Slyde Handboard Facebook

Handfuls of artist entered from various US states. The contest concluded on September 22nd 2012. The winner was chosen exclusively by votes generated from Slyde Handboards Facebook fans.

Fans had the opportunity to vote daily on their favorite artist's design concepts. Ultimately, the artist with the most votes won the contest.

Hawaiian native, Rheanna Morgan, won by a "land slyde" having nearly 3 times more votes than the contests runner up Jason May.

Upon being notified of winning the contest Rheanna Morgan exclaimed;
"My goal is to be an established artist and I feel that winning this contest is an amazing opportunity to start. It has been a great boost of confidence and an inspiration to go deeper into my artistic career."

Rheanna Morgan will now begin the creation process. She will take her design concept, entitled "Makai Roots" and paint it on a blank Slyde Handboard.

Once finished the "unique 1 of a kind" handboard will be auctioned off on Ebay, with proceeds going to Rheanna's charity of choice ReefTeach.

ReefTeach is an education, environment, and empowerment program centered around sustaining Hawaii's natural landscapes.

Thru contests like the above, Slyde Handboards not only intends to keep individuals having fun with their boards, they also hope to create a global surf art movement, which then compliments environmental causes both locally and globally.
