The course is for individuals thinking about starting a business as well as for existing entrepreneurs/managers looking to grow their businesses. It looks at all aspects of a running a successful business, and includes information, tools and skill building. The course follows the format of a business plan, providing information and tools on how to research, write and formulate a plan. However, the course also diverts from a business plan’s linear path, and looks at topics such as building sales and customer service skills; using the Internet to build your brand; learning how to implement an ongoing strategic planning process to help grow your business; generating rules to effectively manage your workplace and your staff; the purpose, goals and structure of an elevator pitch; effective business writing; and much more.
The instructor, Jay Goldberg, is also the author of the unofficial workplace rulebook, “How to Get, Keep and Be Well Paid in a Job” (http://outskirtspress.com/webpage.php?ISBN=9781432725297) and the entrepreneurship book, "Building a Successful Business" (https://www.createspace.com/3785695). Both books have received excellent reviews, and are being used not only by individuals, but by companies and educational institutions to train students and staff. The books are available at the web sites listed, or at Amazon.com and other online booksellers.
In addition to this course, Jay Goldberg is also teaching a rock music history course for the first time in Jupiter High School's adult/community education program. The course, titled, "The Year in Music: 1970 to 1977" follows the major events in rock music during this time (e.g. the breakup of the Beatles, the deaths of Hendrix/Joplin/Presley, the start of punk and disco, and much more).
