DirectRooms.com - Christmas Shopping at Prague Christmas Markets

The Prague Christmas Markets are among the finest such markets in the whole of Europe, an extraordinary winter wonderland that has become very popular with tourists the world over, in addition to being a much loved and long standing local tradition

This year, the Prague Christmas Markets will open for business on the 27th of November, carrying on through the holidays (even Christmas Day itself) until their final day on the 1st of January 2011.

Usually comprising wooden huts emblazoned with colourful decorations, the Prague Christmas Markets sell a variety of items from stocking fillers such as wooden children's toys, scented candles, handmade jewellery, hats, scarves and even Bohemian Crystal, while other stalls keep visitors warm and happy with beer, warm drinks and food such as corn on the cob, sausages and other local specialties. The Markets also feature a beautiful traditional rendition of the classic Bethlehem scene, as well as a massive Christmas tree, decorated with lights, which are turned on around 5pm, creating a truly spectacular view set against the already dark night sky, while children have the opportunity to stroke sheep, goats - or even a llama!

"The Christmas experience in Prague is simply amazing," believes Lek Boonlert, the Head of Marketing for Direct Rooms. "Once experienced, it is never forgotten." Boonlert recommends booking well in advance in order to secure a hotel in Prague for the Christmas holidays, as the magical atmosphere of the Prague Christmas Markets is becoming more and more famous around the world.
