Dawn Brinkley To Promote Dystonia Awareness At Mrs United States Pageant

Dawn Brinkley, a Dystonia patient and current Mrs North Carolina, competes in the Mrs United States Pageant in Las Vegas July 21-22, 2010. Sponsored by the American Dystonia Society, Mrs. Brinkley will promote awareness of this debilitating disorder.

Mrs. Dawn Brinkley, with the support and sponsorship of the American Dystonia Society, will compete in the Mrs. United States pageant in Las Vegas on July 21-22, 2010. Dawn Brinkley wears many hats in addition to her Mrs. North Carolina crown. A U.S. Marine Corps spouse, she is also a Dystonia patient and advocate and a fervent supported of the Wounded Warriors, a Veterans' group. An inspiration and ray of hope for the Dystonia community, Mrs. Brinkley will bring Dystonia to a national stage to spread awareness for a little known disorder. Estimates provided by the American Dystonia Society place between 300,000 and 500,000 Americans as having been diagnosed and up to a million more mat either undiagnosed or misdiagnosed. Mrs. Brinkley fights a constant painful battle with cervical dystonia which debilitates many with the affliction. With this nearly debilitating handicap, Mrs Brinkley will compete with in the pageant representing up to 1.5 million Americans who suffer in silence and the entire company of Wounded Warriors. Winning the title of Mrs North Carolina and competing in Mrs United States are major accomplishments for a person stricken with Dystonia. Dawn Brinkley is to be commended for her courage, perseverance, and compassion for what and whom she represents.
