Bainbridge Island's children's and art museums team up to present Family Art Day
Online, July 8, 2014 (Newswire.com) - Bainbridge Island Museum of Art (BIMA) and Kids Discovery Museum (KiDiMu) invite visitors of all ages for Family Art Day, a one-day celebration of the arts on Saturday, July 19, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., generously sponsored by the Bainbridge Community Foundation. The event attractions and admission to both museums will be offered at no charge. Free parking will be available in the lots behind KiDiMu.
The plaza between both museums will be filled with music, entertainment, hands-on art activities, and artist demonstrations, thanks to the organizations' many community partners: Bainbridge Island Metro Park and Recreation District, Bainbridge Island Storymakers Studio, Bainbridge Performing Arts, BBC Jazz Trio,
The Bloedel Reserve, Bricks 4 Kidz, Coates Design Architects, Kitsap Regional Library, Paper Products, Ranger & the 'Re-Arrangers,' and Winslow Art Center.
"The art museum welcomes families of all kinds to experience, talk about, and make art! We look forward to bringing the art and craft of our region and our time to people of all ages, experience levels, and backgrounds," said Kristin Tollefson BIMA's education director. "We are thrilled that so many community partners will join our museums to present families with an opportunity to celebrate and discover the joys of interacting with the arts," KiDiMu's executive director Susie Burdick added.
A performance by the Bainbridge Performing Arts Theatre School Summer Camp will kick off the event at 10 a.m., followed by concerts by Ranger & the 'Re-Arrangers' (11 a.m. - 1 p.m.) and BBC Jazz Trio (2 - 4 p.m.) on the plaza. Entertainment will also include a complimentary live performance of "Caps for Sale," a musical adapted from the book by Esphyr Slobodkina, music and lyrics by Paul Lewis and Gabriel Carbajal, performed by Bainbridge Island Storymakers Studio in the BIMA Auditorium from (1-2 p.m.).
In addition, two special workshops with Max Grover for KiDiMu members will take place at the museum in the morning (at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.). Together with the artist, children, ages 5-8, will work on self-portraits that will be incorporated in his next masterpiece to be displayed at BIMA and then - KiDiMu. All visitors will have a chance to meet and observe Max Grover on the plaza between 1 and 4 p.m.
The public is also invited to enjoy additional artist demonstrations by: Don Tiller (morning), Holly Hudson (afternoon), and Austin Ohm (11 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.).
