Birdstep Launches Seamless Connectivity Service for Nokia SmartConnect Users

Oslo (I-Newswire) December 8, 2010 - Birdstep Technology ASA, a leading provider of secure and seamless wireless connectivity, today announced the launch of a seamless connectivity service for users of the company’s SmartConnect solution on the popular Nokia E- and N-Series handsets.

SmartConnect is a connection management utility that has been available for 3 years for Nokia device users. The product enables users to specify their wireless network connection preferences allowing them to benefit from cost-savings and increased bandwidth. SmartConnect, actively used by tens of thousands of people around the world every day, is pre-installed on a number of Nokia E-series devices and is also available as a free of charge download from Ovi Store.

Coming a week after Birdstep’s launch of a new solution for Android devices, this announcement further underlines the company’s commitment to the rapidly growing Smartphone market.

The Seamless Roaming Service significantly enhances the SmartConnect user experience by allowing active connections to survive changes in network type and gaps in coverage. This is especially useful for users of VoIP, mobile TV or other operator services because they can now move freely between Wi-Fi and cellular networks without their connection breaking.
