Irmo Recycling Company Takes 2014 State's Top Small Business Honor

Nancy Ogburn, founder and president of Irmo recycling company Tomato Palms, LLC, is the 2014 South Carolina Small Business Person of the Year.

Small Business Person of the Year winners from the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and Guam will gather in Washington during National Small Business Week where one of them will be selected as the 2014 National Small Business Person of the Year. Tomato Palms, LLC provides Midlands businesses with fully integrated recycling services, from collection to sorting to monthly weight tracking of the recycled materials.

Ogburn started Tomato Palms, LLC out of her home in fall 2008 to offer commercial recycling services as a cost-effective and convenient alternative to the landfill. Today, Tomato Palms, LLC occupies a 3000 square foot warehouse and office space and serves 125 clients in four counties. To date, the company has saved more than 1.5 million pounds of material from the landfill.

The winners were recently notified by SBA Assistant Administrator Fred Baldassaro who stated, "Your hard work, innovative ideas, and dedication to your community have helped you succeed. The SBA is pleased to recognize your achievements and your role in driving our nation's economic growth."
