Yuma-International.com Is Ex Apple CEO Eyeing BlackBerry?

Online, December 15, 2013 (Newswire.com) - Yuma International, After a $4.7bn bid from a Canadian-led consortium and the widely-publicized courting of a host of big-name technology giants including the likes of Google, Samsung and Lenovo, it appears that another hat has been thrown in to the ring to see who ends up rescuing embattled smartphone manufacturer, BlackBerry, from its woes.

Ex Apple CEO, John Scully, who was instrumental in ousting the late Steve Jobs from Apple in the 1980s, is reported to be looking at a plan to take control of the Waterloo, Ontario-based BlackBerry.

"The existing consortium bid was for the entire company but BlackBerry has let it be known that it is amenable to splitting up its various divisions in the interests of ensuring its recovery," said an Yuma-International.com technology researcher.

BlackBerry's performance and stock price have both plummeted as sales of its latest handsets have disappointed against those of its main rivals Apple, Samsung and other manufacturer's devices running Android. Its Q2 earnings report revealed deep losses of $965 million and a 45% drop in revenue to $1.57 billion compared to the previous year.

Mr. Sculley is apparently exploring the possibility of a bid with Canadian partners but is remaining tight-lipped on the provision of detail.

"Despite Mr. Sculley's well-documented clashes with Steve Jobs, he did steer Apple though a period of considerable growth. If he's interested in taking over BlackBerry, there'll be a fair number of prospective investors and partners who'd be more than willing to join him," concluded the Yuma-International.com researcher.
