Your Time Publishing and STAIR Won An Honorable Mention From NOLAVIE For The Children’s Book, Writing Our Stories

Writing Our Stories by the STAIR Children has been selected as an Honorable Mention for the New Orleans Children's Book Festival. We hope that this will encourage the children to keep writing and contributing to the literary landscape of New Orleans.

New Orleans, La. (I-Newswire) October 20, 2012 - Writing Our Stories is a collaboration between Your Time Publishing and STAIR. In its pilot program, two STAIR sites were chosen to participate. Stories were solicited from the students and with the help of the voluntary tutors stories were collected to be included in this inaugural issue. This book is written in their words; the 2nd grade students shared with us their feelings, thoughts and ideas. This program will continue during the upcoming STAIR semester.

Start the Adventure in Reading (STAIR) is a 26-year-old local children’s literacy program that provides free one-on-one tutoring in reading to at-risk elementary students from participating public schools in the New Orleans area. Mission Statement: To improve the reading skills and self-esteem of lower grade elementary school students.

Spark An interest in Writing (SAiiW) Mission Statement: To spark an interest in writing at the earliest age possible. We would like to capture the stories of children from their point of view. SAiiW is the non-profit entity of Your Time Publishing developed to promote the creative process of writing and telling stories by engaging young minds to share their thoughts. SAiiW has worked with several schools, after school programs and private programs to initiate the telling of stories. This is the first volume of stories from our children.

Your Time Publishing is a local publishing house that is interested in publishing the underrepresented writer. We believe that children are capable of telling and writing their stories. We all learn best when we can relate to the lesson. We have been working with children from our beginning with the Spark An interest in Writing campaign. Like anything we want to master we need to start young and be consistent. Your Time Publishing, LLC has positioned itself as a community leader promoting reading and writing. In its three short years, Your Time Publishing, LLC has been involved with the Annual Children’s Book Fair since its inception, developed an Annual Book giveaway, and has worked with many venues through-out the city of New Orleans to bring the sights and sounds of reading to the masses. YTP, LLC is branching out to cities such as Oakland, Savannah, Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, Los Angeles and more.
