Deb Evans and AK Stout, hosts of internet show "Social Geek Radio," today announced a campaign to raise awareness of Charity Miles, a smart phone application that earns money for charity by tracking every mile a person runs, walks or bikes.

The campaign, dubbed "Walk For a Friend ... With a Friend ... Meet New Friends," kicks off Sunday, Oct 21st. That day in New York City, Stout and Evans along with Charity Miles app founder Gene Gurkoff and others will explore the city on foot, with the Charity Miles app calculating every step.

Those not in NYC can get involved on the local level by downloading the app and taking a walk in the neighbor or from anywhere in the world. Bicyclists can also track miles.

Participants download the app by visiting the website charitymiles.org. Bicyclists earn 10 cents per mile; walkers and runners earn 25 cents per mile; all up to one million dollars, courtesy of corporate sponsors.

"Wherever you are, at the end of the day you will know you made a difference by contributing your time and energy to a charity," said Evans, who was inspired by friend Roz Shafer. "Our goal is for Charity Miles to have 50,000 downloads by 2013."

Since launching this summer, Charity Miles has 25,000 downloads. When participants post their progress, add #Roz to the post so Evans and Stout can monitor the campaign's progress. To learn more about participating in New York or in your local community visit the website www.smore.com/xp6e
