VJIM Repositioned Business Education

Vignana Jyothi Institute of Management (VJIM), a 21 year old premier autonomous business school has already made a dent in the business education of the country.

Hyderabad (I-Newswire) December 20, 2013 - Vignana Jyothi Institute of Management (VJIM), a 21 year old premier autonomous business school has already made a dent in the business education of the country. It is amongst the top 21 best business schools as per the 'Business Standard-Indian Management Survey, 2013'. The institute was set up by a non-profit educational society, Vignana Jyothi, which also runs five other premier educational institutions.

Indian business education now, is a fusion of conventional curriculum and traditional learning methods. The conservative approach of 'follow the big' has made the business education humdrum and far away from business reality. Conventionally Indian business schools positioned themselves on the dimensions of pedagogy and content. B-schools which are unable to follow the middle path of balancing the world-class pedagogy and content may become extinct. That is why the Indian business education is under threat when compared to the developments that have taken place in the developed and industrialized nations. Globalization has led to a paradigm shift in the strategic context of doing business, leading to the interdependence of the economies. The emerging BRICS and other Asian countries are facing challenges towards achieving corporate triple bottom-line for sustainability. Unless these challenges are addressed through education and training the divide of the world will continue for ages.

In the traditional method, 'managers-in-the-making' are not sensitized towards applying global knowledge for the local problems. That is why in August, 2011, United Nations has developed the Principles for Responsible Management Education, following which B-schools are required to reinvent and reposition themselves. VJIM has responded to this clarion call by embarking on its strategic mission for repositioning business education. It came up with a new paradigm of 'Global Width and Local Depth' in order to become a leading game changer.

The 'local depth' is explored through developing 'industry-specific skills', while meeting the needs of the businesses whereas the 'global width' is achieved through international pedagogy and best practices. By repositioning business education, VJIM is committed to producing 'locally fit' and 'globally sensitive' managers who can possess agile leadership qualities to deliver sustainable value to all stakeholders in the emerging economies.

VJIM, with its internationally exposed faculty members, applied a lot of differentiating techniques like reverse orientation, Socratic dialogue, POGIL, faculty internship program, fundamental research and the like to achieve the objectives of its business education repositioning model.

From the academic year 2013-14, VJIM has made the new model operational. In addition to the choice among plethora of elective subjects in various functions of management, VJIM is offering subjects aiming at managing different types of business organizations. These include managing companies dealing with Pharmaceutical, Banking, Insurance, Financial services, Transportation, Logistics, Communication, Energy and others through application of business analytics and ERP models.

The repositioning strategy of business education is the culmination of the globalization program of Vignana Jyothi which is one of the best governed organizations on par with India's premier institutions.
