Visit Winchester Cathedral Online
Visitors from near and far who already love Winchester Cathedral will now have the opportunity to love its new online shop at www.winchestercathedralshop.com, which is officially launched today.
Winchester (I-Newswire) September 10, 2013 - Winchester Cathedral, one of England's largest cathedrals, has been offering a limited range of gifts for an extended period of time. From today they are able to offer a wider selection through the medium of a more user-friendly website. This was accomplished by working in conjunction with Creative Steam, an agency with a record of developing many other prestigious online shops, such as Prince Charles' country residence - Highgrove. It was Creative Steam's broad experience in working responsively with the needs of international clients that acted as the catalyst for their fruitful collaboration.
The new ecommerce shop displays a comprehensive collection, in addition to the mementoes and souvenirs that are normally associated with gift shops at cathedrals and country houses. The new range includes jewellery, stationery, music and CDs from the Cathedral's highly acclaimed choir and organists, and even something for the home and garden. A range of Christian books and titles about Winchester and its Cathedral and Hampshire in general has also been introduced.
Now a full range of products are available both at the Cathedral and online, allowing visitors to browse for a unique gift in Winchester, Hampshire, and then buy it from Winchester, Virginia when they return to the states!
The aspiration for the new online Shop is that it will both provide an enhanced service to its visitors and generate additional income for the Cathedral itself. With all profits from the both Gift Shops automatically going to support its mission and ministry they will continue to help to funding the maintenance, restorations and running of the Cathedral for future generations.
Pressing the button, Susie said that "After months of hard work, offering wide access to the many beautiful products already sold in the Cathedral Gift Shop has been our long-term aim. It's amazing to think how far we have come in 20 years, since the shop was a small bookstall in the Cathedral itself."
Now we can reach out to people around the country and the world. Many of them may have been to Winchester in the past or wish to visit in the future and want something to treasure but, for whatever reason, cannot do so."
So what's different? You might ask.
Susie continues, "Well, as well as the sorts of things you might normally buy from us, maybe a roll-up piano would be more convenient than the traditional version, or some electric guitar cufflinks? Or maybe a Pride and Prejudice teapot - available in small or large size - or a Mr. Darcy mug!"
"Seriously though, we have rich veins of history and architecture from which to draw. Jane Austen is one of our most famous 'residents', and much loved around the world. Her involvement with Winchester is the least well-known chapter of her life, but equally important, as it is where she now lies. Calligraphy traces its origins back to the earliest days of the monasteries here and Winchester was one of the centers of excellence in medieval times. That is what probably led to the 12th century Winchester Bible, thought to be the most important Bible of its type, at least in the country if not the world. Many would like to have a go, so we now stock calligraphy sets, with a quill pen if you wish!"
Director of Creative Steam, Robert Hatcher said, "It has been a pleasure to be working with Winchester Cathedral, to help to draw out their needs and those of their customers. As well as working together to introduce a quality site on the Magento platform and product range to increase online retailing to support its ministry, it is part of the challenge to make sure that the design and functionality is accessible to people here and internationally and on many different devices. Continuing our relationship with the Cathedral, we are working closely with them to achieve attainable positions and exposure using vigorous online marketing strategies."
We're looking forward to working with the Winchester team well into the future in order to provide the best possible customer shopping experience and good results for them too."
