Very Small Animal will release their debut EP, Starlings with Sleeping in the Aviary, Brian Just Band, and Oak Ribbons on March 10 at the Amsterdam Bar and Hall. Event sponsors, Yes!Lets Collective and music blog MPLSSTPL will provide limited edition coloring book pages inspired by the dark and imaginative lyrics of Starlings. Concert goers will be invited to color and show off their work.

While national unemployment hovering above 10 percent, lead singer-songwriter Patrick Noonan quit a secure corporate job to stay at home and write music. The result was a set of dreamy, beguiling folk songs which the Local Current describes as "unabashed in every capacity." The songs reflect the expansive imagination of a man no longer encumbered by the walls of his cubicle. On Starlings, Noonan ruminates on the motives and mindsets of such complex characters as mental ward patients ("Joanne"), thieves ("Sparrow"), working stiffs ("Original Crime Scene"), and Satan himself ("Morningstar").

After the addition of Tim Harlan-Marks on bass/vocals/songwriting, Brian Laidlaw on electric guitar, and Charles Capistrant on drums, a dynamic, harmony rich sound was born and Very Small Animal set to work recording Starlings in Harlan-Marks' Loring Park living room. After all six tracks were recorded, Sean Geraty stepped in as full time drummer.

Very Small Animal is a founding member of the Yes!Lets Collective, a local cohort of musicians and artists devoted to putting on interactive, multimedia events which break down the barrier between performer and audience. Their goal is to foster an environment in which all participants, regardless of artistic background, can share equally in the joy of creation. Other Yes!Lets acts include Dusty Porch Sisters, Brian Laidlaw & the Family Trade, Oak Ribbons, and Bipolar Bear.
