Valentine's Day a Heartfelt Holiday in Key West

Key West, Florida is well known as a romantic locale for weddings, anniversaries and a lover's get-a-way. This Valentine's season is no different on this tiny island paradise.

The most romantic day of the year, Valentine's Day, is quickly approaching. Many people across the country struggle to find the correct, clever and unique gift that will cause the love of their lives to swoon. Others fight the urge to succumb to the romance of the holiday, claiming the day to be an invention, created by the greeting card companies and candy industry to supplement the slow retail sales that typically follow the "real" holidays.

"Valentine's Day is the day to celebrate the one you love," commented Wednesday Vogel, owner of Roof Top Cafe, a top ranked "romantic" Key West restaurant. "If it was invented to benefit business, bravo! That was a really good idea!"

Vogel went on to explain that on a tropical island such as Key West, Florida, romance and love is a daily event. As a restauranteur, Vogel said that she has created many special occasions, of which a very large percentage were surrounding romance and love.

"As a destination wedding locale, of course you'll find love around every corner," Vogel explained. "To celebrate Valentine's Day in Key West...well, you just couldn't get more romantic!"

Boasting a variety of high-end, island restaurants, historical and romantic Inns, beautiful beaches and one of the most celebrated sunsets in the world, Key West has been a heavy favorite for romantic get-a-ways for nearly a century. Second only to the Hawaiian Islands, the Keys of Florida are the choice of many couples for their wedding day and anniversaries. In addition, a trip to the tiny island of Key West is one of the top choices men pick to surprise the love of their life.

"We picked the island for our wedding because it's paradise," said Laney K., frequent island visitor. "I was so surprised when John brought me for a romantic Valentine's Day weekend. We're staying where we spent our honeymoon!"
