Two Strangers Propel Unique Family Travel Kickstarter Project
Pure Wander Magazine is launching a Kickstarter campaign to propel the family travel magazine.
Colorado Springs (I-Newswire) September 12, 2013 - Stemming off an exploding social media presence and deep interest in alternative family travel, Pure Wander Magazine has launched a Kickstarter project and heart-pumping video to spread the word about ditching the theme park.
Co-founders Shauna Armitage and Eileen Cotter, who met virtually through blogging and travel writing, realized there was a big gap between the general family travel content and extreme global family content out there. Through brainstorming and their years of experience with children, traveling and journalism, they have created a website geared toward families who may not strap on backpacks full-time, but are curious to see what else is out there.
High quality features from well-known international writers will be categorized by age group, so families can know exactly what types of trips they are capable of across the globe. The online magazine sets out to combine exceptional travel writing with a unique parenting perspective and features articles from seasoned travel writers such Julie Hatfield of the Boston Globe and travel author, Helen Truzkowski-just to name a few. There are also rich photo dairies, a massive world calendar of events and a growing kid's section for young, budding writers.
"We've accomplished so much with almost no budget at all," said Armitage. "So when we dreamed up a Kickstarter project, we realized how much more we could bring to readers with a little financial support."
The Kickstarter explains Armitage and Cotter's goals of expanding their site to reach even more "wanderers", which an official launch date of September 24th. Supporters, or backers, can pledge goals of any amount and be rewarded at certain levels with fun Pure Wander gear, a mention on the site, advertising for their small business and blogger consultations. The largest goal has the Pure Wander co- founders planning a luxury getaway for the supporting family which they will plan and book themselves with their connections and expertise in the industry, all included in the pledge amount.
If the goal of $2,500 is reached in the next 30 days, Armitage and Cotter will receive all funding to be put back into the business and help compensate their writers and staff. They have "stretch goals" as well - for example, if double the needed funding is met, the founders will look into publishing the first print edition to reach an even wider audience.
The video on the Pure Wander Kickstarter page was produced by R.L. Horizons using footage shot on the road by Cotter and Armitage. Graphics were created by chief designer Natalie Rainer.
"I've been backing Kickstarter project for years, including the groundbreaking project from Amanda Palmer," said Cotter. "After seeing such inspiration creative influences do well, I couldn't help but want to be a part of the elite too. With Pure Wander, we can finally bridge the gap between parents who think they can't travel and those who do it all the time, creating a community of help and support with quality features, tips and beautifully real narratives from the road."
