Trucker's Strike Set to Shut Down the Nation's Capitol

Online, October 10, 2013 (Newswire.com) - a protest that has been in the planning stages for many weeks now will be launched in an effort to bring national and global attention to what American truckers and bikers refer to as "corruption against the Constitution." This strike, which is well represented in social media, comes on the heels of a peaceful, albeit illegal, demonstration that was carried out on September 12th.

Since then, a Facebook page has been created - "Truckers To Shut Down America" - which has garnered over 81,000 likes at the last count, although this cannot be said to represent the number of truckers who actually intend on shutting down the nation's capitol. In explanation of the Washington D.C. rally, the "Truckers To Shut Down America" Facebook page reads:

"The American people are sick and tired of the corruption that is destroying America! We therefore declare a general strike on the weekend of October 11th to 13th, 2013! Truck drivers will not haul freight! Americans can strike in solidarity with truck drivers!"

On September 23rd, the Department of Justice demanded that Facebook remove the page and so, is no longer visible to web users.

Why Are American Truckers Striking?

The Facebook Group's declaration may make the motivations behind the American trucker's strike seem clear, but for those who don't keep a finger on the pulse of the news, the concept of corruption within the Obama government may sound a little jarring. Some of the sentiments provided on the Facebook page include:

"It does not matter if a million or 50 roll through DC in this effort. Congress will listen to We the People. Which is [to] remove Obama from office for crimes of treason and misdemeanors."

"No amnesty, remove all Muslims in our government that do not uphold the Constitution."

"We want Congressional hearing on Benghazi and Seal Team 6. Louis Learner [sic] put in jail. Remove Eric Holder from office for crimes against the people and the Constitution."

The Facebook page also urges "fellow patriots" to stock up on food supplies and any necessary household items, since commerce and banking will effectively be shut down during the strike. They end by raising the issue of sky-high fuel prices, which has been crippling the trucking industry for the past year and longer.

The Obama administration has not done much to endear itself to the people who virtually spend their lives on the road, transporting shipments of every conceivable product from one corner of the United States to the next. Everything you see on the shelves of your local supermarket was delivered to that stored by a trucker and his noble steed, which, in this case, can have as many as 18 wheels and weigh tens of tons. Truckers are an essential part of what makes our society function and if truckers strike, we will all feel the ramifications.

Shutting Down Washington D.C.: How Will They Do It?

Whether or not the striking truckers will be successful in their endeavor remains to be seen. However, if the September 12th Washington D.C. rally was anything to go by (with over a million bikers and truckers peacefully marching), one might conclude that this is no idle threat. What is for certain, whether or not you agree with the agenda of the rallying truckers, is rendering the nation's capitol incapacitated will have far-reaching effects that will be impossible for the government to ignore. Furthermore, with the cessation of transport and freight haulage, people across the nation will be likely to experience the consequences almost immediately, beginning with rapidly emptying grocery store shelves and general product shortages as dwindling stocks are not replenished.
