Top Three Women's CrossFit Games Champions Share a Single Competitive Edge

Sub-Headline: Samantha Briggs (#1), Lindsey Valenzuela (#2), and Valerie Voboril (#3) gather four weeks before the CrossFit Games to create a plan for high performance nutrition and recovery with Stark's Brad Davidson, utilizing power foods and natural supplements to provide an edge.

Davidson, Vice President of Metabolism and Performance Research at Stark's single location in Irvine, California--the heart of Orange County--travels to a "box" where three elite athletes are training for the CrossFit Games which finished Sunday, July 28th. He's there with a specific mission: to help all three with recovery from training, keep their energy levels high and attitudes positive.

With the assistance of a couple of CrossFit insiders, Chris Espinosa (manager of CrossFit Simi) and Scott McGee (fellow "CrossFitter" and a Santa Monica Police Department SWAT officer), they introduce Davidson to all three, with the hopes that he would help provide the needed "tipping point" in their preparation, and if necessary, even while competing. According to Espinosa, "His protocols work; plain and simple."

"I've got to say that their coach, Dusty Hyland (of Dogtown CrossFit), was so professional. Being open-minded enough to let another coach attempt to come in and help is unusual, to say the least," says Davidson. "So, we got right to work because we had so little time. Sam was showing signs of adrenal fatigue, so we came up with a plan for that. Lindsey had some sleep issues and hyper-active adrenals. She also needed some help with nutritional consistency. And, Valerie is a young mom. She doesn't sleep well enough, wasn't fully recovering, and had a sluggish liver."

Briggs, this year's "Fittest Woman on Earth" states the following: "I was lucky enough to meet up with Brad in the lead up to the games. He did thorough testing to find out what nutrients my body was lacking. . . . and throughout the grueling weekend, I felt my body was recovering properly and firing on all cylinders." Finishing in second place, Valenzuela states, "My work with Stark Nutrition prior to competing at the CrossFit Games was instrumental in making sure my daily vitamin and mineral intake would allow for optimal performance." Of the three athletes, Davidson worked the most closely with Voboril throughout the competition. "Stark Nutrition gives attentive services for finding the perfect balance of vitamins, supplements, and food. They checked in with me daily to see how things were going so that adjustments could be made. I am impressed with how individualized [the protocols were] for each of us. It was obvious how much they cared. . . . ," she writes.

"It was a pleasure working with these guys. They are absolute 'specimens' with unbelievable, naturally lean body composition," says Davidson. His humility is in contrast with the results: first, second and third place for the "Fittest Woman on Earth" is no small feat. He and his team at Stark have coached numerous athletes from a range of backgrounds with a single common thread. "The road to their goals all vary quite a bit," says Davidson, "but the end result should be be the same: victory!"
