Time For Some Of You Pretty Boys To Get Your Hands Dirty!

Last week on "InsureMyRide The Ultimate Rider" 20-year-old rookie, Glenn had plenty to celebrate. He turned 21. And while birthday wishes from home almost brought Glenn to tears, it wasn’t long before his game face returned.

Sydney (I-Newswire) November 26, 2012 - In a mechanical skills session the rookies bike knowledge was tested. "Today we’re going to time how quickly you can change your bike’s rear wheel," said mentor and judge Paul Free.

Moto GP legend Daryl Beattie didn’t hold back - "Time for some of you pretty boys to get your hands dirty!"

Understanding the mechanics of how a bike works is critical to making it perform at its peak. And while changing a tyre may sound easy, many of the contestants struggled. Even after a demonstration from Paul Free.

But 17-year-old machinist Brody excelled at the challenge, claiming long hours in the shed with his father helped him build his mechanical knowledge.

With the fun stuff over it was time to get serious - any mistakes in the next Points Challenge could’ve meant the chance of $20,000 and a contract with Team Honda Racing was over.

The challenge was all about conserving fuel. Each rookie received the same amount of fuel, but who could go the furthest on it?

19-year-old Reckless Mitch didn’t seem to understand the brief, crashing out in his first lap.

"It was like he decided he had to make up all his pace in that left hand turn, compared to everywhere else on that lap, on a turn that really only is the first time full leaning, lean angle on the left hand side on the tyre" said a disappointed Daryl Beattie.

"Mitch is an interesting one...someone that we've watched carefully throughout the challenges and for me it's about control for Mitch. You know he’s fast, he’s got an enormous amount of ability, but he doesn’t at times know why he’s going fast and it's about control," Daryl continued.

The Honda CBR 600 was a complete write off. Luckily the only damage was to the bike, remarkably Mitch walked away unscathed.

As the challenge continued Brody and Glenn were neck and neck, while Daniel and Kyle lagged behind.

Now the leader board shows Brody in top spot for the second time in three weeks, with Glenn once again in second. Alex is Mr Consistency in 3rd place, while Mitch gets a point for trying.
