Three Steps To Your Killer Mobile App

Amidst the growing glut, making inroads in the Apple App Store, Google Play, or even Blackberry and Windows apps stores for that matter is a massive challenge.

CA (I-Newswire) February 27, 2013 - Amidst the growing glut, making inroads in the Apple App Store, Google Play, or even Blackberry and Windows apps stores for that matter is a massive challenge. Mobile developers and businesses eyeing a competitive edge need to have everything well thought out, right from development to submission.

Think outside the box

Given how pervasive mobile apps are these days, almost every one of us has an app idea waiting in the wings. But that however is not enough to go far. There are in excess of 700,000 apps on Google Play, while Apps Store is close to 750,000. Unless your mobile app really stands out off the beaten track, it might just end up making the numbers.

The good thing is a killer app is almost always just round the corner—all it needs is a small idea to begin with. Much the way of Chad Mureta, who successfully managed working his app concept through a lack of technical skills and financial constraints. His first mobile app cost $1,800 to build, earned him approximately $162,000, and was conceived out of a hospital ward.

Worthy designing

It’s simple: designing rules. But that doesn’t warrant over the top graphics, imagery, or flash. Flipboard iPhone app serves a classic example of how engagement over frills is always the way to go. The app is ever so minimalistic outwardly but it opens up to a new look every time. And that is what makes it such a massive hit—design.

Engaging designs that delight users and add utility are the key. Animations and graphics add aesthetic richness but aren’t enough to go the distance. Make your app designed to deliver high worth to the user. Attune aesthetics to that end.

Stay off data hogging

Though device manufacturers and service operators are pulling together better data feeds, no one likes an app that dents their data usage. As far as possible, stay off heavy consumption. Also, apps that consume more of 3G or 4G data often are the ones prone to crash out. Therefore it’s crucial that your app goes easy on data, with no hang time at all.

Go back a little, and you realize that ongoing apps phenomenon is quite akin to the Internet revolution of the 90s. Whatever was possible with the Web then is now possible with apps.
