Magento developers who feel like entrepreneurs will submit their unique Magento extension idea(s) and if it gets selected by ThemeHeros screening team, they will bring it to life and the developer will get 20% of the revenue after its release.
Before the actual idea submission, competitors are highly advised to follow certain guidelines. First and foremost, to confirm the idea at hand qualifies as a "unique" idea, all competitors must Google it and check if there are existing extensions available. In case there are, they are encouraged to see how their idea is different. Finally, do not submit it if the idea already exists and is available on the market.
The idea submission process is very simple. It starts with a free of charge idea submission at organizer's official competition page http://www.themeheros.com/saveextension. All interested parties must fulfill all required data relating to their Magento extension idea, so do take the time needed and explain the entire idea in detail including the extension functionality. If possible submit sketches (wireframe) of the idea. Upon its submission, ThemeHeros screening team will review uniqueness, feasibility and ideal opportunity. Only if it fulfills all 3 requirements, it will go to the next phase. If not, developers are encouraged to re-submit it once the idea is revised with the help of the feedback received from the screening team.
The third stage is called "Brainstorming" at the end of which the screening panel decides whether the submitted idea is promising or not. If it is, the idea goes to the next phase "Work on Idea". If not, the developer will receive a feedback and is free to re-submit the idea once it is revised. During "Work on Idea" stage, ThemeHeros team will work on wireframe, UI and other technical aspect of development. Following is "Development" stage ending in the completion of the extension. Finally, "Go live" stages where ThemeHeros make it live and start marketing the extension on ThemeHeros and other market places.
