The Upper Room, A Family Resource Center, Receives $30,000 Grant From The Alexander Eastman Foundation

Teen Information for Parenting Success (TIPS) Program Named Beneficiary of Award

Derry, NH (I-Newswire) January 8, 2013 - Today, The Upper Room announced it is the recipient of a grant totaling $30,000 from The Alexander Eastman Foundation. Specifically, the Teen Information for Parenting Success (TIPS) program will secure the benefits of this generous gift.

TIPS is a program for current and expectant parents aged 23 or younger. It is a support group and education program. TIPS teaches its members parenting and life skills such as avoiding abuse and neglect, nutrition and healthy meal preparation, financial management and planning, how parents can continue their schooling while caring for a child, and family dynamics. TIPS also provides access to resources needed, and information on how to secure employment and housing. All services are free and confidential.

In addition to weekly evening meetings held at The Upper Room, TIPS also holds weekly meetings at its members’ schools, summer trips, fun family events, workshops, and learn and shop nights such as the annual Halloween “Bootique” where members can pick a donated Halloween costume for themselves and/or their child.

“We are very honored to receive this grant from The Alexander Eastman Foundation,” remarked Kimberly Bavaro, Executive Director of The Upper Room. “These funds will go a long way in making sure our TIPS participants receive the knowledge and tools needed to be a great parent, and the resources to create happy and positive parent-child relationships. We thank the Alexander Eastman Foundation for their kind support, and look forward to helping more young families in the new year.”
