(I-Newswire) March 4, 2010 - FORT WORTH – Attorney Jeff Rasansky of Dallas’ The Rasansky Law Firm is announcing a lawsuit filed today in Tarrant County state district court on behalf of the family of a woman who was killed in a car crash with an off-duty Fort Worth police officer whose blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit.
Sonia Baker, 27, died from injuries she suffered two weeks before Christmas last year when her car was hit by an unmarked police vehicle driven by Fort Worth officer Jesus Cisneros. Mr. Cisneros registered a blood alcohol content of 0.17, more than double the limit allowed under Texas law. He has been charged with intoxication manslaughter. Prior to the crash, Mr. Cisneros had been drinking at The Pour House, a popular bar in downtown Fort Worth.
The Pour House, an assumed name of Aventura Hospitality, LLC, and owner Eric Tschetter are named as defendants along with another related business entity. The lawsuit was filed in the 236th District Court on behalf of Ms. Baker’s husband, Mario Baker; their two children; and Ms. Baker’s mother, Stella Lopez. The family members are represented by the wrongful death attorneys at The Rasansky Law Firm and Charles M. “Chuck” Noteboom of The Noteboom Law Firm in Hurst. The lawsuit is Mario Baker, et al. v. Eric Tschetter, et al., No. is 236-244028-10.
“Sonia Baker died because The Pour House lived up to its name and kept pouring drinks for Mr. Cisneros even though he was so drunk he could hardly stand up and should never have been driving,” says Mr. Rasansky. “Sonia had a loving family and a great career ahead of her before she was killed because The Pour House wanted to serve more drinks.”
The fatal crash occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Dec. 11, 2009, when Ms. Baker was driving to pick up breakfast for her family before heading to work at her job as a dialysis technician. When she didn’t immediately return home, Mr. Baker woke up their children and took them to help search for their mother. The family soon arrived at the scene, which was less than a mile from their home.
An internal investigation conducted by the Fort Worth Police Department showed that Mr. Cisneros had been drinking at another bar in an “unauthorized undercover bar detail” before drinking as many as four beers and four shots of liquor while at The Pour House.
