The Olympics of Hate in a Nation of Anti-Gay Laws?

New Independent Analysis of Russia's Anti-Gay Law & LGBT Rights Reveals Surprising Facts

Just days before the start of the 2014 Olympic & Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia a new white paper reveals that the rights afforded to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) individuals in Russia are remarkably similar to their counterparts in most U.S. States. "Russian Federation Anti-Gay Laws: An Analysis & Deconstruction" is the most complete study to-date of the controversial Russian law and the rights of LGBT individuals in Russia.

The independent report aims to cut through the rhetoric and sound-bytes which has framed most American's understanding of the law. It achieves this goal through: providing a complete analysis of the text of the law; reviewing all the related-rulings by the judiciary to extract a better understanding of the law from the Court's interpretation; conducting a comprehensive comparison of rights afforded to LGBT individuals in the Russian Federation and the United States; and, looking at draconian, anti-gay laws throughout the world.

The paper's author, Brian M. Heiss, shared "The advancement of LGBTQQI rights in both the United States and abroad is very important to me; so much of my personal and professional life has focused on advancing equality and tolerance." Heiss continued "In sharing this paper with the public, my hope is that the reader gains a more complete understanding of the situation for LGBT individuals in Russia and, if the reader is passionate about equality hopefully they will utilize this knowledge to develop the most effective strategic approach to advance LGBT equality and foster an atmosphere of tolerance & understanding both in the Russian Federation and the United States."

The catalyst for the white paper was an analysis of the law, by Adam Curry & John C Dvorak of the No Agenda Show, which greatly differed from all other US media reports. Determined to disprove their analysis, Heiss immersed himself in research to gain a deep understanding of the law; what he discovered shocked him.
