The electricity ring in the Campania islands

Terna began authorization procedures for the first segment of the submarine cable between Capri, Ischia and Procida.

Within the first half of 2013 the island of Capri will receive electricity from the mainland. Good news, not only for the island's companies and population, but also for the millions of tourists who will not experience electricity interruptions or polluted air and water any longer.

Presently, most of the electricity production systems are supplied with highly polluting fuel oil and the service quality is extremely low.

According to Terna's estimates and provided authorization procedures that were just initiated do not face any obstacles, the works for the electricity line that starts in Torre Annunziata, should begin in 2011 while entrance into operation is expected in 2013. Investments for the project total approximately 45.5 million euros. The total investment planned for the complete ring is of approximately 140 million euros.

This is the first portion of the submarine electricity cable that once completed will also connect the islands of Ischia and Procida, forming a true submarine electricity line in the Gulf of Naples.
