The Alloy Valve Stockist, a Barcelona, Spain-based supplier and distributor of exotic alloy valves, has recently broadened its range of supply to include monel valves for HF acid service.
Heather Smith, Head of Sales and Marketing commented that "The addition of monel valves for HF acid service and alkylation plants is an important stage of our strategy. We aim to cover the full spectrum of exotic alloy valves for the petrochemical sector, and particularly these monel gate and globe valves will help us serve our alkylation customers better."
Monel valves are a key part of the alkylation process. They are highly resistant to HF acid, and are specifically designed to ensure the integrity of the process and enhance worker safety. Safety features include special paint that allows easy, visual detection of any leakage, particularly around the seal between the body and bonnet. This seal is the most delicate external seal and also the potentially most dangerous, as it would allow the acid to flow into the air.
The stem seal is also important, though more from a process perspective than a worker perspective. The seal ensures that when the monel gate valve or monel check valve is closed, that the seal is absolutely positive, even under pressure. This protects the balance of mechanical equipment in the alkylation process from being exposed to HF acid when this is not meant to happen.
HF Acid valve manufacturers, including Petrolvalves of Italy, specialize in these type of exotic monel valves, and are registered as approved vendors for UOP and ConocoPhillips alkylation plants.
