Texas Boy Corrals Greenhouse Gases

Texas Boy Corrals Greenhouse Gases (GHG) by inventing and patenting a Fuel Catalyst & System that eliminates Prompt NOx from diesel and natural gas powered engines. Now companies can save money, not spend more.

Tyler, Texas (I-Newswire) June 1, 2011 - Ever heard of Prompt NOx? Neither have most people, but Prompt NOx is the dirty-little-secret of greenhouse gases (GHG). Jerry Lang, working from his humble shop in Lindale, TX, has invented and patented a catalyst that eliminates Prompt NOx from natural gas and diesel powered engines. Tired of the black exhaust billowing from school buses and other commercial vehicles? Relax, it’s about to become a distant memory. Mr. Lang, 70, holds or is named in 27 patents and at least 13 of them are combustion engineering related and he is considered an authority in the field, as evidenced by Mr. Lang has recently provided expert testimony in refinery legal proceedings.

Recently, Jerry was contacted by a colleague who operated natural gas pipelines in the Barnett Shale, located near Dallas-Ft. Worth. Apparently, the EPA was lowering NOx (nitrous oxide) emission limits to such a degree; it would cost a fortune to upgrade all the natural gas compressors to reach compliance. Jerry went to work on an unconventional solution, since he knew the existing costly technologies are designed to reduce NOx by lowering the fuel-combustion temperature in the engine, also known as reducing Thermal NOx. Historically, in natural gas and diesel engines, Thermal NOx often comprised over 75% of the total NOx emitted, with the balance being Prompt NOx. However, due to advances in burner design and related technologies, Thermal NOx emissions have been reduced to such a degree, Prompt NOx is frequently the main GHG emitted. Armed with this knowledge, Jerry developed a liquid catalyst that is injected into the engine to eliminate Prompt NOx and drop emissions below the new EPA mandates.

Jerry’s company, JLCC Catalysts, has successfully installed multiple JLCC Liquid Catalyst Delivery Systems with most of the Major Oil & Natural Gas Producers and Compression Rental Companies in the United States, and at less than one-third the cost of competing technologies, which focus on reducing Thermal NOx. Further, the catalyst does not restrict horsepower like competing designs, so the compressors operate more efficiently with fewer maintenance costs. JLCC is just beginning its campaign to dramatically reduce NOx emissions in the gas-patch.

Still, like Jerry, he wasn’t done there. Jerry tweaked the catalyst for use in a typical diesel engine. JLCC is currently working with a firm that operates a 24-vehicle diesel fleet and the results are simply astounding.
• NOx emissions reduced 20 – 60%
• Black exhaust is eliminated
• 8%+ increase in fuel efficiency, due to the catalyst altering how the diesel is consumed in the engine.
• lower maintenance cost per vehicle
• Cost? Less than 1% savings pays for the product. The savings generated on maintenance and fuel more than pays for the cost of the catalyst.

When recognized by a large enough trucking firm or company, Jerry Lang will be responsible for making diesel fueled vehicles some of the cleanest and most efficient vehicles on the road; truly revolutionary.

About the man:
Jerry Lang’s first patent application was at the age of 14. As a teenager, he acquired a 1931 Chevy to drive, but Jerry had no money for gasoline. For fuel, he collected liquids from a condensate drip-tank adjacent to a local natural gas well. Not surprisingly, the natural gas condensate caused the Chevy engine to run very rough and loud. Jerry, with an instinctive knack for all things mechanical, modified the engine to run smooth and quite. Fortunately, Jerry’s uncle recognized the Chevy modifications as patent-worthy and assisted him in the filing process due to his age. To this day, Jerry continues to receive royalties from patents that are improvements and innovations from that original EGR system as it is now known.

Even with all his accomplishments, Jerry has lived his life with humility and grace. In 2001, Jerry was tendering his services to a major oil company refinery which was using a large engineering firm to manage a project and was instructed to include JLCC’s Organizational Chart in his bid. Given that Jerry had only 1 employee at the time; Dave Scott, he was reluctant to submit the Organizational Chart, because JLCC was competing against much larger firms. When advised that JLCC’s Organizational Chart was mandatory to the bidding process, Jerry presented a vertically-descending chart beginning with God, Wife, Jerry Lang and Dave Scott. JLCC was awarded the project and the Organizational Chart continues to be on display at the refinery these many years later.

Jerry Lang is semi-retired now, but you wouldn’t know it by monitoring his work habits. Later this year he’s scheduled to complete the testing of 2 new emission technologies which may be game-changers in the GHG discussion. His professional legacy will certainly include the recognition as being one of the greatest innovators in the field of emission and combustion technologies.
