ABOUT TERRA LEGNO

Terra Legno uses a unique process to manufacture eco-friendly wood flooring. As part of its commitment to green engineering, Terra Legno uses younger, smaller trees and rapidly renewable materials that grow at a faster rate than old-growth hardwood trees. Terra Legno floors produce up to three times more square feet of flooring per tree harvested.

Terra Legno wood flooring has all the aesthetic benefits of solid wood flooring, as well as several practical improvements. Floors constructed with natural wood usually only consist of one single layer of wood, leading them to expand and contract due to moisture. Terra Legno eliminates any imperfections by combining separate layers of hardwood, placing each plank's grains at right angles. This unique procedure gives the floor dimensional stability it would not otherwise have. Every Terra Legno floor is made from seven sub-layers of 100 percent Russian Birch hardwood, which is known for its exceptional strength and stability. Even the veneers of Terra Legno floors are different, and created to make a superior end product. The layer of veneer is sawn lengthwise from the tree, then kept in very low humidity and dried slowly to keep moisture out of the wood cells, preventing cupping, curling, splintering or cracking.

Terra Legno supports the reduction of waste through advances in engineering, and by supporting our natural resources through its membership in the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). The Forest Stewardship Council supports environmentally sound and sustainable use of the nation's forests, and the FSC has certified all of Terra Legno's products. In addition, Terra Legno is ceritfied by the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) and by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).

Terra Legno floors have been used in such prestigious hotels and residential buildings as the Ritz-Carlton, Trump Towers, and the Lofts at New Roc.
