SynBioBeta San Francisco 2013

A conference for synthetic biology startup companies, established players and investors to meet and learn about advances in the field.

On November 15, 2013, SynBioBeta will once again be bringing together the synthetic biology community for the second annual SynBioBeta Conference at Mission Bay Conference Center UCSF.

The conference provides a venue for companies, both established and startups, investors and academics to meet, partner, exchange ideas and learn about the latest advances in the rapidly evolving field of synthetic biology. Some of the topics on the agenda are: Crowdfunding, Advances in Gene and Genome Synthesis, Scale-up in the Bioeconomy and Synthetic Biology VC Funding. The audience will also hear from new startups in the field, including nine companies visiting from the UK on a synthetic biology trade mission.

"We are now seeing an exponential growth in the number of synthetic biology startups year after year," says Dr. John Cumbers, founder of SynBioBeta. "As the cost of writing DNA falls, we see a range of new startup companies entering the synthetic biology market competing with a number of established players" "These companies range from those with new technologies for writing DNA such as Gen9 and DNA2.0, to companies making computer aided design (CAD) tools for genome design such as Teselagen, Genome Compiler and Benchling." "We also have a number of speakers from applications companies such as Dr. Paul Hill from Amyris, Dr. Harry Yim from Genomatica and Sean Ward from UK based Synthace, who will all be talking about scaling up their solutions for the production of high value chemicals. Dr. Mike Koeris from Sample6 technologies will also be giving an update on their innovative food safety biosensor, for which they just closed an $11M series B financing."

The conference will be followed by a cocktail reception and on Saturday, November 16, 2013, SynBioBeta will be presenting a Networking Brunch Cruise past the Golden Gate Bridge for anyone in the synthetic biology community to attend.
