Sylvan Dale Ranch To Hold Introductory Fly Fishing Clinic Saturday, May 26, 2012

Sylvan Dale Guest Ranch is holding an introductory Fly Fishing Clinic on Saturday, May 26 for local folks who've always wanted to learn how to fly fish but have never had the opportunity. Instruction will be given by professional fly fishing guides.

Loveland (I-Newswire) May 24, 2012 - Sylvan Dale Ranch is holding a introductory Fly Fishing Clinic on Saturday, May 26 for local folks who have always wanted to learn how to fly fish but have never had the opportunity.
Instruction will be given by Ted Meredith and Bill Franz, professional fly fishing guides.

Instructions will include the physics of casting with a demonstration on how to "load" the rod and let it do the work for you. Over head casts will be taught and practiced, as well as the "roll cast". Instructions on tying knots will be demonstrated plus reading the conditions of the water and the flies to use. Proper handling of the fish will be shown, as all of our catches will be released to fight again.

Dr. Bill Franz, who is an instructor at CSU, has been a guide at Sylvan Dale Ranch for eight years. He is avid fly fisherman, who enjoys the sport when he isn't teaching or guiding. He ties his own flies, builds his own rods, and he has an uncanny ability to catch trout.

Ted Meredith is a retired school counselor who has been at Sylvan Dale Ranch for six years. Ted is an artist as well as a fisherman and enjoys painting watercolors of the fish he catches. His favorite pastime is fly fishing and being an active member of Trout Unlimited.

Both gentlemen offer an enthusiasm for the sport that will certainly be "caught" by the lucky participants in the class.

The proceeds from the clinic will be used to improve Sylvan Dale's Rainbow Lake fishery by the installation of aerators in the bottom of the pond that will increase oxygen levels critical for quality trout habitat.

The fly fishing clinic goes from 1:00 to 4:00 PM on Saturday, May 26. It is geared toward beginners 12 years and up who are enthusiastic about learning the art of fly fishing.
