Superhero Events Announces the Awesome '80s Run Series - 'Where Neon Hits the Road'

There's no denying that the music, fashion, celebrities and culture of the 1980s is close to millions of people's hearts - and is still widely embraced by the masses today. The team behind the hugely successful Hollywood Half Marathon, which debuted this past April in Hollywood, CA is celebrating the '80s decade through a new race series called the "Awesome '80s Run." The world-famous Pasadena Rose Bowl will host this inaugural 5K/10K run on September 1, 2012. Participant registrations are on pace to sell out weeks before the event.

"I recognize that the children of the '80s now make up the largest demographic of runners in endurance events today. For that reason, it became very important for me to create a race series that celebrates the fun colors and creative styles of our youth," said Ken E. Nwadike Jr, President of Superhero Events. "Many of us reminisce on the outfits we wore in past decades and laugh at how ridiculous we looked; this event gives runners an opportunity to experience that fun with teammates, coworkers, and friends."
The Awesome '80s Run will be a competitive event for some participants, but most are looking forward to enjoying a fun fitness activity without the pressure of competition. Entertainment will be ever-present at the event, including an '80s cover band to pump up runners with favorite artists from the decade, choreographed dances led by OneFitJam, and thousands of people dressed from head to toe in their '80s costumes. The event will also feature one of the most iconic cars in movie history - a Back to the Future DeLorean.

All participants will receive a unique '80s themed medal and will be redesigned each year to showcase popular memorabilia of the 1980s. Entrants that run as a team will be eligible for team competitions and awards, including Largest Team, Fastest 5K Team, Fastest 10k Team, Most Awesome Team Name, Raddest Team Costumes, and much more.

The Awesome '80s Run will benefit local youth homeless shelters in each its host cities. Participants will be able to make donations through the event fundraiser page linked within Awesome80sRun.com. "This is a great opportunity for us to help homeless teens in major metropolitan cities in the United States. The excitement and social buzz that the event creates will increase awareness in areas where homelessness is a major issue," said Sabrina Nwadike, Vice President of Superhero Events.
The inaugural Awesome '80s Run in Pasadena is only the beginning of this rapidly growing event. This race series is heading to San Diego on October 27, 2012 and San Francisco on November 18th, 2012. Future dates will be announced soon in Las Vegas, Miami, Chicago, Phoenix, Seattle, New York, San Antonio, and Philadelphia.
