State Assisted Living Association Responds to Article Citing Poor Oversight and Care

The Florida Assisted Living Association (FALA) responded to an article published by the Miami Herald alleging insufficient oversight of assisted living communities.

Tallahassee, FL (I-Newswire) May 4, 2011 - "FALA and the assisted living providers we represent are dedicated to ensuring excellence and the delivery of quality care for the seniors and residents who live in Florida's assisted living communities," said Patricia Lange, Executive Director of the Florida Assisted Living Association.

"We are saddened by the tragic episodes highlighted in the Miami Herald article," said Lange. "Though we consider even one episode to be one too many, residents, their families and the public should recognize that these are isolated incidents and do not represent the loving and high quality care that is provided every day to more than 80,000 residents in assisted living communities statewide."

FALA has worked in the past to secure statory and regulatory changes to promote appropriate care and treatment of residents. FALA, its leadership and members are committed to working with the Agency for Health Care Administration, the Department of Children and Families, the Department of Elder Affairs, and the Florida Legislaure to ensure compliance with our laws and regulations.
