A local athlete gives back to the community in a big way

Camden, New Jersey (I-Newswire) August 15, 2011 - Professional basketball player Jason Thompson will host a fundraiser baseball game with the Camden Riversharks this Saturday August 20th, 2011 at Campbell’s field located at 401 N. Delaware Avenue, Camden, NJ.

In support of the L.I.V.E. Like JT Campaign the Rivershark roster will wear custom Jerseys bearing Jason Thompson’s logo. The game-worn jerseys will be up for bid during a silent auction which will go live in the seventh inning of the game. Proceeds from the winning bids will directly benefit the cause. Thompson will address the crowd and have the honor of throwing out the first pitch. The night will conclude with a firework display that will illuminate the waterfront skyline.

“I’m excited to introduce my campaign to the community at the Camden Riversharks game," says Thompson.

Fans can purchase specially priced $11 tickets for Saturday Night's game using the fundraising code "JTF" and $6 from each ticket purchased will go to support Jason Thompson’s L.I.V.E. like JT Campaign. For additional information and to purchase tickets visit www.riversharks.com.

The L.I.V.E. Like JT Campaign Mission:

LEARN. IMAGINE. VOICE. EDUCATE

For many children in high-risk underfunded communities the simple idea of graduating to the next grade can seem impossible and without the necessary support and encouragement from family, peers and the community many students will not achieve a high school diploma, let alone a college education. Now with an alarming increase of budget cuts within the school systems many students are losing the one thing that keeps them engaged, sports and recreation.

L. I .V.E. Like JT is a campaign designed to encourage children to strive towards academic and social excellence. With four key messages, our goal is to equip as many children as possible with the skills and opportunities they deserve despite their environment. We work with local schools and after school programs to create safe and healthy surroundings for students to socialize through sports and play with an emphasis on education.

Jason Thompson launched the L.I.V.E. Like JT Campaign to afford impressionable youth the opportunity to excel academically as well as socially. As an advocate for education Jason understands the important role knowledge can play in sculpting ones future. His wish is to enable children to reach their full potential regardless of their background, social status or circumstance. Jason believes that when you learn something new, imagine the possibilities, use the voice you have and continue to educate yourself, anything is possible.
