St. Thomas Boat Rental Company, Pirates Paradise Adventures, Offers New, More Comfortable Way To Island Hop.

Want to explore the Virgin Islands but have a physical impairment, or are carrying a few extra pounds? St. Thomas boat rental company Pirates Paradise Adventures', new boat, Red Beard smooths the bumps out of Island Hopping.

Anyone who has rented a powerboat in St. Thomas or St. John to do a bit of island hopping has probably experienced not only the most stunning beaches, beach bars and snorkeling spots, but also a few sore bottoms, and backs from the boats they were on.

Virgin Island Charter boat companies usually use what are known as "center console" fishing boats. Easy to operate - low on comfort. With limited access points, getting in and out of the water usually entails flinging yourself over the side, then having to craw up a tiny ladder by the engine to get back in. No problem if you're young and healthy, but less limber older people, those with physical limitations, or those carrying a few extra pounds, may find it to be more trouble than it's worth.

Pirate's Paradise Adventures, based in St. Thomas, is changing that. The founders of the company Brian & Leigh Woeller rented a center console boat when they first came to the Virgin Islands. Naturally, they fell in love with the islands, but wished the boat had more creature comforts. When they decided to start their own charter company, they knew they wanted to use a different style of boat, one that was designed more with the comfort of the passengers in mind. They couldn't find the boat they wanted anywhere on the islands, so they had one shipped from Florida.

Their flagship boat, Red Beard, is a 32' runabout with lots of upholstery and padding for the lounge-style seating. "It's been a huge hit with our guests," says Brian Woeller of Pirate's Paradise Adventures. "We're getting a lot of people who liked the idea of a private tour boat, but wanted an upgrade in comfort. They see the difference with our boat and appreciate the value and comfort we offer." "I'm a big guy," confesses Woeller, "Red Beard is so much easier to get back on!" When asked if there were differences among the sexes as to which features each preferred, Woeller said, "The men like the sleek, European styling and the power of the engines...the women like the sun pad, and oversized swim step, and everybody likes the forward facing lounge seats."

Being a little wider and heavier than the other boats also makes Red Beard more stable in the water, a bonus to those who could be prone to seasickness.

In addition, Red Beard has a refrigerator, sink, freshwater shower and iPod-ready stereo.

Exploring the Virgin Islands has always been a fun and exciting journey. Now, even those withe physical liabilities can enjoy them, too. For more information or book a tour, please go to www.PiratesParadiseAdventures.com
